Experience

I have been working with children for the past 10 years. I started performing in Children's shows then moved in to teaching Dance, Drama and Singing. When I had my own little boy I wanted to take him to a class we could do together and Baby Sensory was recommended to me. I took my little boy along to a taster session and we both LOVED it!!! It soon became my son's (and mine) most favourite part of the week. Then one day the opportunity arose for me to run my own Baby Sensory classes and I just couldn't refuse! I look forward to sharing the magic of Baby Sensory with you and your little one, it really is wonderful.

Baby Sensory is totally unique – no class is the same, using a range of equipment to help babies develop through sensory stimulation.

I look forward to welcoming you and your baby to my classes – and sharing your enjoyment as they learn and develop in their first year.

FAQ's about Baby Sensory:

Is my baby too young?

It is never too early to introduce your little ones to a variety of sensory experiences.
Babies have begun learning from inside the womb already and as they come into this world they hit the ground running!
A newborn’s brain contains more than 100 billion brain cells (neurons). Some of these neurons were wired in the prenatal period for specific functions such as breathing and heartbeat. However, the majority of synaptic connections for vision, language, hearing, smell, taste, movement and learning will be formed in the first three months of life.
Stimulation from birth increases neural growth and whilst we certainly do this in our classes, it is also important to mention that touching, talking, singing, reading, smiling, signing and playing with babies from birth, nourishes the brain and develops potential for a lifetime.
Our classes provide a rich environment full of interesting sights, sounds, smells, taste, colours, textures and language, which builds a foundation that will make all subsequent learning easier.

What do we do in class and why have an Exploratory Play?
The structure of the class is divided into 3 parts and reason behind this is because your baby has a natural play-rest-play cycle, which lasts about an hour.
The first 25 minutes we “Say Hello to the Sun” followed by a number of stimulating activities varying from; puppet shows, baby massage, traditional rhyming and visual activities to sing and sign, texture exploring, messy play and making music (to name but a few!)
We then break for 20 minutes, where the babies can rest and explore the Exploratory Play under their own steam or Free-Flow Play.
During the Exploratory Play there are no set rules or guidelines. Your baby decides what toys interest him/her the most, how he/she explores them and how long the play will last. Free-flow play enables your baby to entertain himself/herself for short periods, which will become a beneficial life habit.
The Exploratory Play also provides a social setting for the parents. Here you can meet new Mum’s, try out equipment and materials, gain ideas for home use and spend quality time with your baby.
We then head back to the Sensory Area for the remaining 15 minutes for more stimulating activities before “Waving Goodbye”

Testimonials

"Class leader Suzie is friendly, bubbly, approachable and above all, great with the little ones. With Leo breastfeeding every five minutes and Toby just learning to walk, Suzie approached us at the beginning of the class to assure us that it is perfectly fine to let the babies do what they needed to do during the session, be it feed them, let them sleep, crawl or walk. This instantly put us at ease. As soon as we put the boys down on the padded mats, they were instantly taken with shiny foil pom poms, which introduced the theme of the days’ class; SPARKLES. This was followed by other visual sparkles including shiny fabrics, foil blankets, bubbles, dim lighting and balloons as well as musical sparkles including chimes and instruments. All props given were exceptionally clean - very important as babies tend put them straight into their mouths. Although there are lots of similar baby classes around, the structure of the Baby Sensory course and the fact that each class provides a new experience, makes it one of the best we’ve tried."

"I've been attending Baby Sensory classes in Carshalton since my baby was 3-months-old. She was so smiley throughout the taster session I decided straightaway to sign up for the classes and am really glad I did. It's a great opportunity to bond with my baby and to get ideas for ways to interact with her at home. I love watching her reaction to the different sounds and textures and experiences. As she's grown older she's become increasingly aware of her surroundings and appreciates the classes more every week. This is a really great class. It's also a good way to meet mums. It's well organised, friendly and flexible. Definitely recommended! :)".

"I have been taking my son to this class for the last couple of months and have to say I would really recommend it! He enjoys all the activities and the fab toy area. There is something different every week to stimulate the baby's senses and it's amazing to watch their little faces light up when they see all the different effects. The under the sea week was a particular favourite for my son. The best baby class I have been to and have just signed up for the second term! Excellent value and a fantastic thing to share with my son on during my only valuable non-working day!"
